Top 5 Oktoberfests
There are many areas of the world that go all out for Oktoberfest and some may surprise you.
According to the Smithsonian Magazine, Oktoberfest originated in Munich, Germany in 1810 when Crown Prince Ludwig (later King Ludwig I) married Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. The newlyweds invited all the citizens of Munich to celebrate their nuptials outside of the city gates, on a field now named Theresienwiese (Therese's fields). However, you don’t have to travel to Munich every September to take in the famous festival.
From Germany and the United States, to Canada and Australia, there are many fun destinations to experience an authentic Oktoberfest. We’ve rounded up some of the best places outside Germany to drink your fair share of beer.
