Memphis is a great place for a summer vacation. From the art museum at the University of Memphis to the Beale Street Walk of Fame, you’ll find something the entire family can enjoy. We sat down with FastPark & Relax manager Sean Diaz to talk about his favorite summertime activities.

What is your favorite thing to do in Memphis in the summer?
I always enjoy the Memphis in May International Festival. This year, it features Patti LaBelle and Snoop Dogg. I also love to participate in the festival’s Annual World Championship Barbeque Competition. If you don’t want to try your luck in the competition, you can walk the mile-long park and watch chefs work their magic. Unfortunately taste testing is prohibited, but you can purchase barbecue onsite.

What is the one can’t-miss destination in Memphis?
Anyone traveling to Memphis should visit the newly renovated National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel. The museum displays hundreds of artifacts, films and interactive displays that guide visitors through centuries of history.

If visitors are looking for outdoor activities – hiking, camping, etc. – where should they go?
For outdoor activities, visit the Mud Island River Park or take a stroll down Beale Street. Voted one of the more iconic streets in America, you don’t want to miss the great shopping and world-class restaurants. Motorcyclists can participate in Bike Night on Beale, which happens every Wednesday night from April through September.

What is the best hidden gem in Memphis? A place only the locals visit?
For great cheesecake, visit the Cheesecake Corner. It is the best!
