The holidays are winding down, and it’s almost 2015. If you haven’t made your New Year’s resolutions yet or if you’ve decided to travel and get healthy, we can help.

Start with the Travel Channel’s 10 healthy travel trends. From “detox vacations” that help you unplug your electronic devices and relax to destinations to take off added holiday pounds, you’ll find the right place to begin healthy vacation planning.

Don’t want to get in shape on your own? The Nest suggests four healthy trips for couples. The wine country trekking trip in Sonoma County, California, sounds like the perfect mix of exercise and relaxation. The five-day trip is made for runners who love wine. Three of the days include eight- to 13-mile runs that end at wine tastings.

If you don’t want to take a vacation dedicated to working out, you can make a few small healthy changes on your next trip. Start by keeping as active as possible. If the hotel fitness center doesn’t sound like fun, get outside and walk. Explore your destination on foot – you may see something you would have otherwise missed.

Wash your hands often. It’s easy to pick up a cold or cough when you’re moving through airports and feeling jetlagged. Keep a small bottle of hand sanitizer in your bag for those times when you can’t wash your hands.

Food can be the biggest health pitfall when you travel. From fast food to decadent meals you enjoy because it’s a special occasion, it’s easy to pick up a couple of pounds on your trip. Start your day with foods high in protein rather than sugar. Eat a bigger meal at lunch to avoid unnecessary calories right before bed. Avoid alcohol if you can – water will not only help you avoid calories, it will keep your body healthy and hydrated while you travel.

Have a happy and safe New Year – we look forward to seeing you before your next trip in 2015!
